Dave Ramsey Speaks On Medi-Share

4/20/2017

We here at Medi-Share Reviews have a tremendous amount of respect for Christian personal finance guru Dave Ramsey. His advice on home ownership, investing, budgeting, and taxes is well-informed and comes from an honest and knowledgeable Christian perspective.

Reader Luke H. has written in to point out that Mr. Ramsey has in fact discussed Christian healthcare sharing ministries, and Medi-Share specifically, on his site.

Dave Ramsey talking about Christian Insurance and Medi-Share

After praising Christian healthcare sharing ministries in general, calling most of them "very reliable," Mr. Ramsey singles out Medi-Share's "great reputation."

He then points out correctly that Christian health insurance alternatives are not insurance and don't face the same regulations as insurance companies. What this means is that you need one that has a long track record of serving its members, such as the 28 years that Medi-Share has been providing affordable healthcare sharing.

"In 1993, a formalized approach to sharing healthcare burdens began with the Medi-Share program. From small beginnings, this big ideal took root."

By the way, in case Mr. Ramsey's post isn't available when you click on it, here are his exact words:

There are several programs out there with long track records of always doing what they say ... I wouldn’t go with one that doesn’t have several decades under its belt. MediShare, as an example, has a great reputation.

The reason why Mr. Ramsey correctly advises his readers to be careful is because Christian healthcare sharing ministries are not insurance, a point that we talk about more in our post: "What is Christian Health Insurance?" As well as our main YouTube MediShare review, we also have our newer YouTube video specifically on Medi-Share Reviews and Dave Ramsey.

If you believe in Dave Ramsey's advice and are looking for an inexpensive health insurance alternative, please request your free info packet directly from Medi-Share, providing many more details and telling you exactly how much you would pay each month as a member.

What is your favorite Dave Ramsey wisdom?

Thom, sorry I missed this question when you first posted it. Medi-Share probably wouldn't be the best choice as supplemental insurance for Medicare since it is meant to be a stand-alone healthcare sharing alternative to traditional health insurance. If you have any further questions, please feel free to get in touch and I will be happy to help.

How does prescription drug coverage work? I take a thyroid medication daily--does the plan offer any sort of coverage for medication? Does it go toward the "deductible"?

Good question Tyra. Your prescription drug bills are eligible for sharing for 6 months and do go toward the AHP (deductible), but do be aware that pre-existing conditions will usually not be covered.

Could I combine MediShare participation with HDHP coverage and contribute to an HSA?

Sorry Aaron, I'm not sure of the answer to this question but if you call Medi-Share or use their online chat feature, I think you will get a quick reply!

Why doesn’t Medishare cover pre existing conditions? I’m diabetic, and also have thyroid issues that will need to be monitored and treated the rest of my life. It doesn’t seem worth it to sign up if they’ll never be covered.

Also, I can’t understand why it won’t cover wellness exams such as for women. It seems to me if you have a wellness exam every year and catch some thing early, the cost would be a lot cheaper in the long run for Medishare.

Thank you.

uhsm covers wellness. Medishare doesn't cover? I'm deciding between the two share plans.

Good question Nancy. Members vote on which expenses are eligible for sharing, and the healthcare sharing focuses on unexpected medical expenses.

That isn't true. You use pre existing conditions as a way of not sharing. With even proof that it wasn't. Beware!!!!!

Complete scam. When anyone mentions any of these faith based health sharing ministries, put on your track suit / shoes and run away as fast as you can like you are in the olympics hoping for a gold medal.

I completely agree with you. They stole my money. I requested well in advance to terminate the program and they still took my money from my account. I had to have the bank go after them to get it back. When I started to try to get the money back they told me that they couldn't find my account and that they didn't have me on file. I was with them for 4 years and 28,000 dollars spent. We even added extra to help others, and they still stole from use. I was very stupid.(I have the e-mails to prove this and statements showing cost spent) Whenever I ask about a claim they stated it was a pre-existing condition and that I didn't qualify. They're not insurance they shouldn't be going by insurance guide lines. Because my wife and I are Christians we stayed with the program on fate, until it got to a point that we were done being a doormat. THEY"RE wolfs in sheep clothing. Beware!!!!!

I agree. They are not paying the bill we submitted because they claim they are unreasonable. I can not control what a hospital charges. They don't care and I'm stuck with the bill.

We joined Medi-Share in 2017 and later when my wife broke her leg, all they wanted to do was pray for her. Every time I’d call them, which was many, they would do nothing, but asked if they could pray for us. The costs ran $35,000 and we would wound up paying about $25,000 of that, and they squealed like pigs to pay nearly a year later about $10,000. They are criminals posing as Christians.

I agree. My wife had to visit an emergency room to be intubated in life or death situation and Mediscam refuses to pay the bill saying the charges are unreasonable. So I'm stuck with the bill.
